Calzones

 

Ingredients:


DOUGH:

1 pk. yeast
1 cup warm water
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. oil
1 tsp. salt
2 & 3/4 cups flour

 

FILLING:

Cheese, mushrooms, green pepper, onion, sausage, pepperoni, ham, bacon, chicken, olives, tomatoes, jalapenos, garlic, miniature meatballs, or anything else you would like to use as filling.

1 jar spaghetti or pizza sauce
1 tsp. Italian Seasoning
1 tsp. Oregano
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. butter or margarine

PREPARATION:

Dough:

Dissolve packet of yeast in 1 cup warm water. Mix 1 tbsp. sugar, 2 tbsp. oil, 1 tsp. salt and 2 & 3/4 cups flour into the yeast and water mixture. Mix together until smooth. Knead and cover for 30 minutes.

Roll out dough into about a 10" circle. Place one cup of sauce in the center of the dough and then place cheese on top of that. Next, add your chosen fillings. Close the calzone by folding it in half over the fillings. Place on a greased cookie sheet.

Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees (190 in UK). Place the calzone in the oven for 20 minutes, remove and brush with the butter / margarine, and bake for another 5 minutes or until golden brown.

The dough can also be used for making homemade pizza crust.
